The temperature requirements of pistachios can be summarized as the need for very hot, long summers and very cold winters. They are extremely sensitive to ambient humidity, especially during the summer months.
Pistachio prefers soils with medium texture (loam or sandy loam).
Pistachio prefers calcareous soils with alkaline pH, although it can tolerate a range between 6 and 8.
Pistachio is a very hardy crop, but it responds well to the application of fertilizers, which must be adjusted according to factors such as: soil depth, texture, planting density, management system (dryland or irrigated), rootstock, care (pruning), pH, and nutrient reserves and availability in the soil.
