Wheat belongs to the genus Triticum and consists of annual plants in the grass family (Poaceae). It is one of the most widely produced grains worldwide. 90% of the wheat produced is bread wheat.
It adapts to a wide variety of climates, to areas with a cool, wet growing season followed by a warm, dry season during ripening.
Higher yields are obtained in clay-loam or clay soils rich in calcium, with good absorption capacity, not very well-aerated, but with adequate drainage.
The most suitable pH range is between 5.5 and 7 (though it tolerates higher pH values).
