It’s not a very demanding plant in terms of climate. It thrives in temperate or warm-temperate climates, and it’s very demanding in terms of lighting. It’s very sensitive to waterlogging.

Loamy soils. They must be well-drained. Moisture content slightly lower than field capacity.

The optimum is between 5.5 and 7.0.
CHARACTERISTICS
GARLIC CROPS
ROOT
Fasciculated and very numerous. Bulbous root, composed of 6 to 12 bulblets ("garlic cloves"). It develops its large volume in the soil; few reach the subsoil.
STEM
It emerges from the center of the leaves. It is hollow, very plump, and hairless, and grows from 40 cm to over 55 cm, culminating in flowers.
LEAVES
Radical, long, alternate, compressed and without apparent nerves.
FLOWERS
In the central part of the “disc” (scape). In the form of an umbel.

The application of organic soil amendments is a crucial aspect. In general, it is advisable to apply stabilized and sanitized organic products to reduce potential risks arising from the application of raw organic matter, such as nitrogen immobilization, the release of phytotoxic compounds, the presence of pathogenic microorganisms, weed seeds, etc.
Likewise, organic amendments and fertilizers must have heavy metal contents below the maximum allowable levels established by current regulations.
